"Says" by Nils Frahm I really don't know anything about Nils Frahm. This is really great to hear, though. 46. "In the House of Yes" by Mr Twin Sister So groovy! I'm really glad this band is back. 45. "Put Your Number in My Phone" by Ariel Pink I'm pretty surprised this isn't much higher on this list. 44. "Lights Out" by Angel Olsen I like this, but still don't feel passionately about Angel Olsen. Maybe next year! 43. "Love Me Harder" by Ariana Grande feat.

  • Album Of The Year | Ricky Eat Acid ~ Three Love Songs
  • Finally, what's your favourite record of the year if you had to name one? If I had to pick just one, it would be Ava Luna's 'Electric Balloon'. That's the best record I've heard in years and years, and one of my favorites ever. Ratking's 'So It Goes', Planning for Burial's 'Desideratum', Mister Twin sister's self titled, So Cow's 'The Long Con', and Wreck and Reference's 'Want' are also just some of many other favorites. • What a weird, wild and confusing year for music in 2014. As Recommended Listen mentioned in its 30...
  • with post-millennial angst, in which the answer to all of life's grumblings is always "Why?" For dealing with run-ins with your ex or old friends eager to overshare the fruits of their success, You Blew It! provide the right kind of chaser when nothing feels right. 19. Mr Twin Sister - Mr Twin Sister [Twin Group / Infinite Best] Art-pop has edged dangerously toward becoming a monolithic descriptor these days since it started being attached to industry game-changers like Beyoncé, the sub-pop minor successes like the Sky Ferreiras of the world or money-wasting disasters with conscious efforts to commercialize it, but the small-scale oddity of Mr Twin Sister on their rebirth justifies its need to exist. Their "jams" are conceptually alt and unable to replicate. The sex being had writhes with the kind of rhythm that can't be learned without experiencing it for yourself for the first time rather than through another's words or movements. Many artists in 2014 have attempted to sculpt an album both peculiarly palpable and exonerated of past identities, be it others or their own, but so far, only Mr Twin Sister has succeeded at the reinvention of the self. 18. • 2014 faced an uphill battle before it started on the heels of a year that will probably go down as...
  • the next big anti-pop cover girl. Shura's flushed color palette may graze elbows with the familiar fashion senses of other modern day '80s pop-styled class acts like Dev Hynes and her new Polydor labelmate Jessie Ware, but the love story sung on "Just Once" is her's alone, even if universally-speaking. 28.Mr Twin Sister - "Out of the Dark" [Twin Group / Infinite Best] Mr Twin Sister have reemerged under a different guise on their self-titled, self-released sophomore effort, and yet, it's strangely familiar because it is still so alien in what they do best as art pop weirdos. On "Out of the Dark," the ... / and I want to be as gay as I can." If that isn't one of the year's most ear-striking set of words put to song, I don't know what is. Never the less, the addition of a masculine prefix alongside slipping into the world of high-end design results in Mr Twin Sister sounding comfortable in sensory-boggling striations akin to the DFA or Godmode fashion house of experimental future wave dance where androgynous android limbs choreograph commanding floor maneuvers for modular beings. 27. • Good Sunday Listening: Mr Twin Sister
  • We've been fans of the Long Island band Mr Twin Sister for some time over here at TNLF and I thought it was about time we reintroduced you to them. Especially because they have just the right sound to perfectly compliment a lazy Sunday like this one. They capture that laid back swagger that just goes along with days like these and in a very rich musical way. Chillwave, yes. Trip-Hop, perhaps... they've been described as a "dream-pop disco" band but I think it's more than that when you consider their single "Blush" which is a crooning R&B track, or "Rude Boy" which is a sparkling dream-disco track. It sounds like it could have been made in the late 70s rather than now. The other question on most peoples mind is "why the name change?" Last time we featured the five-piece on the website they were yet to release their debut album In Heaven and they still called themselves simply "Twin Sister" rather than "Mr Twin Sister." They were forced to change their name after another band with the same name called them out on trademark infringement saying "Besides sounding good, [the name change] allowed us to sidestep some impending legal trouble involving a different group named Twin Sister.... we didn't want to operate with a constant cloud over our heads." Their second full length album is an 8 track self-titled LP that includes "Rude Boy," "In The House of Yes," and "Blush." Improve your Sunday by 100% by buying Mr Twin Sister on iTunes now. Julian Casablancas + The Voidz and Alt-J both put out big, fascinating, conversation-starting albums today, and even if I don't really like those albums, it's fun to have them around to pick apart. Bonnie "Prince" Billy and King Tuff and Mr Twin Sister and NehruvianDOOM and Tweedy all put out records that I really do like, to varying degrees. • The Long Island band Twin Sister have been on a serious role ever since they announced, a few month ago, that they'd inexplicably changed their name to Mr Twin Sister. The three songs they've shared since then -- "Out Of The Dark," "Blush," "In The House Of Yes" -- are all great. And they're all great in ways that are different from one another and different from anything the band had done previously. Those three songs, plus five more, appear on the band's brand-new self-titled album, which is coming out next week. And right now, you can stream the whole thing at Pitchfork. • Mr Twin Sister - "In The House Of Yes"
  • I've harped on this before, but "Mr Twin Sister" is not a good band name. But when the band formerly known as Twin Sister added that mystifying article to the front of their name, they also seemingly gave themselves a creative shot in the arm. The band's self-titled album is out later this month, and the two songs we've heard from it, "Out Of The Dark" and "Blush," have both been fire -- confident, smooth songs that hit the same pleasure centers without sounding anything like one another. Their new "In The House Of Yes" follows suit. It's an a jazzy and house-inflected pop number, and it's elegant and slick and jazzy. For those of us who loved Everything But The Girl's 1999 album Temperamental, it sounds just about perfect this morning. Listen to it below. Mr Twin Sister is out 9/23 on Twin Group/Infinite Best. Now, please excuse me while I dig up my cassette copy of Temperamental. Mr Twin Sister - "In The House Of Yes"

  • This spring, dreamy New York indie pop group Twin Sister switched things up by changing their name to Mr. Twin Sister. Now, they've unveiled their first album under the new moniker. Their self-titled effort will be out on September 23 on Twin Group/Infinite Best. This announcement comes with another small moniker change, as the period has been removed from the "Mr" in "Mr Twin Sister." The band tweeted, "Left the period off Mr cause YOLO." The album includes the previously unveiled cut "Out of the Dark," plus the newly shared "Blush." While the former is a sequencer-driven thumper, the latter drifts hazily amid a cloud of pillowy keys and strings. Hear both songs below. Both tunes feature string quartet arrangements by Carlos Hernandez of Ava Luna. They were produced and mixed by the band, along with Jon Low; we're guessing that the same team worked on the rest of Mr Twin Sister too. The album can be ordered over on iTunes. • The Long Island indie-poppers Twin Sister recently made the baffling decision to change their name to Mr. Twin Sister, which, I think we can all agree, is not a good band name at all. But band names matter way less than the actual music coming out of those bands, and right now, Mr. Twin Sister might be better than they've ever been. As they changed their name, they released the skittery and synthy new song "Out Of The Dark," and it was good. And now they've announced plans for a self-titled album, coming next month, and shared a languorous new torch song called "Blush." It's a finely orchestrated, idiosyncratic

  • Mr. Twin Sister - "Out Of The Dark"
  • Twin Sister spent the early part of this decade developing a reputation as "Long Island's dreamiest dream pop band" before saturating pop culture in unexpected ways such as being sampled on a Kendrick Lamar song and singer Andrea Estella co-starring in the Veronica Mars movie. They're back with a new single called "Out Of The Dark," but their name has changed slightly, as has their sound. From now on they'll be called Mr. Twin Sister, and the song is a darkly sleek, squirmy electro-pop song that makes me wonder if they've been jamming Liars and Factory Floor. The key lyric goes like so: "I am a woman, ... bangs, so download it below or hear it an animated YouTube video. • Twin Sister's Andrea Estella Cast in 'Veronica Mars' Movie
  • folks behind Veronica Mars raised an incredible $5.7 million for a comeback movie through Kickstarter, but apparently that wasn't enough to attract actress Leighton Meester (of Gossip Girl fame) back to reprise her role as Carrie Bishop. Excitingly for indie music fans, creator Rob Thomas has cast Twin Sister frontwoman Andrea Estella in Meester's place. This news was revealed in an email to Kickstarter backers [via the Hollywood Reporter]. Thomas explained that Meester was unavailable due to a scheduling conflict, and he needed a performer who could sing for the role. "I decided to cast someone from a band I already wanted in the movie," he wrote. He is a fan of Twin Sister, and often listened to their song "I Want a House" when penning the script. At least two Twin Sister tunes will apparently be featured in the film. "[Estella] has an amazing voice; I can't get enough of it," Thomas enthused. Estella reportedly had never watched the show before signing on to do the movie. "I watched the Veronica Mars pilot and was totally into it!" she admitted in a statement. "It's the exact kind of show I would get obsessed with, so it's been a bit of dream to be in a movie, especially being a messed-up rock princess. How could I say no? I think the VM fans are going to be very happy!" The Veronica Mars film is expected out next year. Twin Sister's Andrea Estella Cast in 'Veronica Mars' Movie

  • Twin Sister's Andrea Estella to Replace Leighton Meester in "Veronica Mars" Movie
  • The Kickstarter-funded film of the hit TV show "Veronica Mars" just took an interesting turn. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Leighton Meester (aka Blair from "Gossip Girl") will be replaced by Andrea Estella of New York indie pop band Twin Sister. She'll take on Meester's former role of Carrie Bishop, a character who appeared in two episodes of the television series. Meester was unavailable due to scheduling conflicts. According to THR, series creator Rob Thomas wrote the film's Kickstarter backers and explained that he cast Estella simply because he's a big Twin Sister fan and wanted ... sing. "We needed a performer who could sing in this important role. Once it became evident that we couldn't make Leighton's schedule work, I decided to cast someone from a band I already wanted in the movie." Thomas also said that Estella "has an amazing voice; I can't get enough of it" and that two Twin Sister songs will be featured in the movie. This marks Estella's film debut, and her introduction to the "Veronica Mars" empire, according to The Hollywood Reporter. She'd never seen an episode of the film prior to signing on, but said, "It's the exact kind of show I would get obsessed with, so it's been a bit of dream to be in a movie, especially being a messed-up rock princess. How could I say no?" The Veronica Mars film is scheduled for release next year. Last year, Kendrick sampled the languorous Long Island quintet's "Meet The Frownies" on good kid, m.A.A.d city's Dr. Dre-produced "The Recipe," though this step's a bit bigger, and much more filmic: Lead singer Andrea Estella will replace Gossip Girl's Leighton Meester in the cultishly adored TV series Veronica Mars's Kickstarter-enabled big-screen adaptation. Leighton was supposed to reprise her small role from the show (she appeared in two episodes) as Carrie Bishop, a character Estella's called a "messed-up rock princess." According to an email sent to the film's Kickstarter's backers, Leighton couldn't commit, show creator Rob Thomas wanted to use Twin Sister in the film anyway and needed an actress who could sing, all around and away we go Andrea was cast. Says Estella: "I watched the Veronica Mars pilot and was totally into it! It's the exact kind of show I would get obsessed with, so it's been a bit of dream to be in a movie, especially being a messed-up rock princess. How could I say no? I think the VM fans are going to be very happy!"
