Obsession with Greg Proops continues and this interview with him by Aisha Tyler is choice. He gets meta on the podcast of Smartest Man In The World, which is fascinating. Really gets into the craft of comedy, pointing out how in other countries, stand up is taken much more as an art than in the States, where people seem to give it less respect and don’t realize the intentionality of it all. Interesting that Proops actually listens to his podcasts afterward, so as to refine it and avoid repeating himself. And also how important the podcast has become to him as an artistic medium, as a vehicle. And how it is influencing his standup. He also gives props to George Carlin as the "Beckett of American standup." If you are a Greg Proops fan, this is a must listen:

Greg Proops is always funny, but thought he was on fire that night in Bellevue. Lots of local jokes about snowpocalypse 2012, Lincoln Square and Pioneer Square. Listen here:

Review
Packed at the Sea Monster, people all jammed together in that tiny space, dancing, whooping it up as they tore it up. Joe Doria taking psycho solos, wring so much freaky modal mayhem on that Hammond B3 organ, sick sound. Amazing left hand bass work too. Andy Coe mad chops on the guitar, tore it up on final tune, Walter Becker worthy. Cliff Colon saxophone rips scintillating solos, gets the crowd going as he builds and builds and builds. Drummer Tarik Abouzied keeps it moving and frenetic. They had a trombone player too, didn’t catch his name but that added nice texture. These guys are a Seattle Tuesday night institution, glad to see it’s still going strong.
